Driver ID installation
GPS tells you which vehicle did it. Driver ID tells you who was behind the wheel โ every trip logged under a name, not a plate.
Driver ID is a small reader wired into the cab that identifies whoever is about to drive. The driver taps a fob, card or key ring against the reader before pulling away, and from that moment every mile, stop, hard brake, speeding event and idle minute on that trip is recorded against that person in your GPS platform instead of against the truck. In a shared fleet, where three people might use the same van across one week, that single change turns a vehicle report into a driver report. It is the difference between knowing a vehicle was doing 78 on I-85 at 4:40pm and knowing exactly who to talk to about it.
Most fleets come to us for one of four reasons. Insurance or a safety program requires driver-level scoring rather than vehicle-level. Payroll and job costing need real hours per person rather than a guess. A customer dispute needs an answer about who was on site and when. Or a manager is simply tired of asking around the yard every time a report raises a question. Driver ID answers all four from the system you already run, and it keeps working whether the vehicle is assigned, pooled, taken home overnight or swapped mid-shift.
We come to your yard, terminal or jobsite โ there is no shop to drive to and no vehicle needs to leave your site. We mount the reader where the driver can reach it without stretching or looking away from the road, run the harness behind trim rather than across the cab, and tie it into the telematics unit already in the vehicle. Wiring is soldered or connected with proper sealed connectors, loomed, and secured so it cannot rub through or drop into the pedal area. Before we move on, we test each vehicle with a live fob and confirm the driver name is landing in your portal, not just that a light came on.
Yes. We are brand agnostic and install across every major telematics and camera platform, so driver ID goes onto whatever you already run rather than forcing you to change providers. If your fleet runs more than one platform because it grew that way, we fit each vehicle to the system that vehicle reports into and make sure the driver list lines up across both. We are happy to speak directly to your provider or reseller during the install so the fobs are enrolled and the names appear correctly the first time.
Driver ID is usually installed alongside a tracker or camera in the same visit, which is the most efficient way to do it. A crew typically completes 15 to 20 vehicles per day, per installer, and most fleets are scheduled within three to five days of asking. If your vehicles come back to the yard in waves, we work around the shift rather than asking you to hold trucks off the road.
Driver ID, answered
Yes, and that is the point โ the tap is what ties the trip to the person. Most systems can be set to prompt with a buzzer for a short window after ignition, and some fleets add an interlock so the vehicle stays disabled until a valid fob is read. We set the behaviour you want during the install.
The trip still records against the vehicle, it just shows as an unidentified driver until it is assigned. Most platforms let a manager assign that trip afterwards. We also carry spare fobs on install day and can enrol replacements for you later.
Often yes, depending on the card technology your badges use. Send us a photo of the back of a badge and we will confirm before install day rather than guess on site.
When it is fitted at the same time as a tracker, it is a small addition to the per-vehicle install. Basic GPS installs run $65 to $125 per vehicle. Tell us the vehicle count and what is already fitted and we will send a firm quote the same day.
